  • 03 Apr 2010  Request for Indicators: Annual Competitiveness Report, Benchmarking Ireland's Performance 2010

    The National Competitiveness Council reports on key competitiveness issues facing the Irish economy together with recommendations on policy actions required to enhance Ireland's competitive position. One of the NCC's annual publications is Benchmarking Ireland’s Performance. In 2009, this analysis of Ireland’s competitiveness performance used approximately 140 indicators to see how Ireland compares internationally on, for instance, living standards, export performance, prices and costs, productivity, innovation and infrastructure. In March and April 2010, in preparation for the 2010 report, the NCC sought suggestions for additional/alternative internationally comparable indicators that could further our understanding of Ireland's relative competitiveness. The opportunity to make suggestions for additional indicators closed in April 2010.

    The launch of the National Competitiveness Council’s report, Driving Export Growth, took place on Monday, 7th December in Wilton Park House. Representatives from Ireland’s leading exporting sectors participated in a forum discussion regarding the policy actions required to ensure Ireland’s economy achieves sustainable export-led growth.

    The National Competitiveness Council (NCC) called for the prioritisation of investment in Dublin and our other main cities to enhance and ensure Ireland’s long term competitiveness. Launching the report Our Cities: Drivers of National Competitiveness, the Council highlighted the increasingly crucial role that cities play in enhancing competitiveness in modern knowledge-based economies.

  • 09 Mar 2009  Presentation on NCC Statement on Education and Training

    The launch of the National Competitiveness Council’s Statement on Education and Training took place on Monday, 9th March in Fitzwilliam Hall. The event brought together circa sixty policymakers, educators and industry representatives. Barry O’Leary, Chief Executive of IDA Ireland opened the event by outlining the importance of Ireland’s education and training system to economic development and to the enterprise sector. Don Thornhill, Chair of the NCC, presented the recommendations of the NCC Statement on Education and Training with a view to strengthening and reforming aspects of the education and training system in Ireland as part of the broader effort to reignite economic growth.

  • 28 Oct 2008  Ireland’s Competitiveness Challenge

    This high level summit, held at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin, brought together Ireland’s most influential policy-makers, business people and members of academia to discuss the competitiveness challenges which currently face the Irish economy. The emphasis of the event was to encourage the diverse selection of delegates to consider, debate and develop possible policy responses to these challenges.

  • 09 Jan 2008  'Re-conceptualising Ireland’s Competitiveness' - NCC Conference

    The NCC Conference 'Re-conceptualising Ireland’s Competitiveness' was held on 9 January 2008 at Farmleigh House, Phoenix Park, Dublin. The conference provided participants with the opportunity to consider the changing nature of the Irish economy, the key external political and economic influences and uncertainties and the changing dynamics of the enterprise sector in Ireland. It also looked at emerging opportunities and challenges and helped identify the key success factors for sustaining Ireland’s competitiveness and for achieving future growth.
